"XMITTER" Helmet & Jacket by Patrick Fitzgerald
About the Item
To Chicago-based artist Patrick Fitzgerald, his sculptures are a means of traveling through time. Working from found materials, Fitzgerald constructs miniature soap box cars and the branded attire of their imagined drivers. Futuristic forms imbued with history, each sculpture is an exercise in imagining the future through the lens of the past – or vice versa.
Entitled “XMITTER," this helmet & jacket set is a music related piece, inspired by jazz and Egyptian pop from the 1970s. The "Farfisa" branding across the jacket references the Italian keyboard used in much of the music from these genres. The title is short for transmitter, a specification on QSL cards used by ham radio operators.
